  Burial: Jellico Creek Baptist Church Cemetary, Whitley Co., KY   He came to Whitley Co., KY about 1820, shortly after that county was formed in 1818 from the county of Knox. With him, reportedly, came two brothers. One brother settled in Clay County, KY and the other brother, William, remained with Simon.

After his marriage, Simon Jones lived near the head of Jellico Creek and later patented several tracts of land - one of which was known as Peak Mountain, where he made his home. One survey of his land was dated August 2, 1826; another dated August 27, 1822, and known as the Joseph S. Creech survey, and assigned to Simon P. Jones on Jellico Creek. He accumulated quite a bit of land all through that part of the county. He was also engaged in the mercantile business and dealt in tan bark, livestock, and various other commodities.

Acc. to the 1870 Whitley Co. Census, Simon was 78, Acc. to marriage bond book, he was 74 on 11 Mar 1867 when he gave his bond to marry Sarah Loudermilk, making him born 1793?
